Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed a complete lack of concern regarding wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's reappearance at the team facility amidst an ongoing contract dispute and injury recovery.

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk made his return to the San Francisco 49ers facility on Friday, though his presence was met with a clear lack of enthusiasm from the coaching staff.
The sentiment within the 49ers organization regarding Aiyuk's reappearance was less than positive, with head coach Kyle Shanahan explicitly stating his position.
"I could care less," Shanahan stated when questioned about the possibility of a meeting involving Aiyuk and key 49ers personnel.
Shanahan further emphasized his detachment, remarking, "It’s been over for our football team for a long time. I don’t hear much except questions about it today. But it’s not too big of a deal for me to answer."
Coach's Indifference to Aiyuk's Return
The head coach's blunt comments underscore a significant disconnect between the player and the team, which has been simmering for an extended period.
The Ongoing Contract and Injury Saga
A significant disagreement between Aiyuk and the 49ers has persisted for more than a year. The conflict escalated after the team nullified the remaining guaranteed funds from his contract extension. This decision stemmed from Aiyuk's failure to engage in rehabilitation sessions for a severe right knee injury, encompassing a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus, which he sustained during the 2024 season and from which he has not yet fully recovered.
The wide receiver was officially placed on the reserve/left team list by the 49ers in December, following his cessation of appearances at the team facility.
Upon his arrival at the 49ers' offices, Aiyuk offered his perspective on his physical condition and future. "I’m feeling great, feeling healthy," he commented. "Long recovery process, long rehab process. But I’m back to 100 percent and looking to get reinstated into the National Football League."
Despite the ongoing situation, Aiyuk is expected to remain under contract with the San Francisco 49ers once the NFL reinstates him. However, General Manager John Lynch has previously indicated that he does not anticipate Aiyuk playing for the team again.
Prior to sustaining his injury in the 2024 season, Aiyuk recorded 24 receptions for 374 yards. His standout performance came in the 2023 season, where he amassed 1,342 receiving yards on 75 catches and scored seven touchdowns, playing a crucial role in the 49ers' journey to the Super Bowl.
