Brewers Take Dominant 3-0 World Series Lead After Historic Eight-Run Inning
The Milwaukee Brewers moved closer to their inaugural World Series title, securing a decisive 10-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3.

The Milwaukee Brewers are now just one victory away from clinching their first-ever World Series championship, having established a commanding 3-0 series lead with a decisive 10-1 win on Monday night.
While the final score indicates a blowout, the narrative of Game 3 includes a fifth inning that the Tampa Bay Rays will undoubtedly regret, and one that future baseball analysts might cite as a prime example of the significant role variance plays in Major League Baseball's postseason.
The series shifted to Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay, where a large crowd of Rays supporters was present, alongside a notable contingent of Milwaukee fans. Consistent with their postseason performance, it was largely the Brewers' faithful who had cause for celebration.
Early in the game, the Rays showcased some defensive prowess. In the top of the second inning, outfielder Chandler Simpson made a spectacular running catch in the left field corner, colliding with the wall to deny Sal Frelick a hit. Shortly after, catcher Nick Fortes picked off Garrett Mitchell attempting to steal second base, concluding the inning. However, the momentum would soon shift dramatically.
The Brewers' formidable offense began to assert itself in the third inning. Jackson Chourio initiated the scoring sequence with a ground ball single, followed by a walk drawn by Jake Bauers. This set the stage for Milwaukee's remarkable ability to capitalize on batted balls in play.
Christian Yelich then hit a soft blooper at 71 mph that found a landing spot for an RBI single. William Contreras followed suit with another bloop hit, this one at 79 mph, which also fell in to drive home the second run of the contest.
Robert Gasser's Unexpected Playoff Dominance
A 2-0 lead in the third inning might not typically be considered substantial, but the Brewers had Robert Gasser on the mound. Gasser, often viewed as a league-average pitcher with a 4.27 expected ERA during the regular season, has transformed into an unexpected playoff ace, showcasing the unpredictable nature of postseason baseball.
Entering his Game 3 start, Gasser had surrendered just one run throughout the entire playoffs. The Rays, however, were unable to even manage that on Monday evening. Despite not generating a high number of swings and misses, Gasser effectively utilized the opposing team's misfortune on batted balls. Prior to Monday's game, opponents had recorded an exceptionally low .185 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) against him.
In Game 3, Gasser delivered six shutout innings, tallying only three strikeouts and allowing just one hit. The Rays' BABIP against him was a mere .071. It is projected that Gasser will conclude his postseason allowing just seven hits on 55 balls put into play, an incredible .127 batting average against, significantly lower than the league average of approximately .300.
This performance marked a historic achievement: Gasser became the first left-handed pitcher to throw six shutout innings while facing the minimum number of hitters in a World Series game since legendary Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax. This remarkable run highlights how, in baseball's short series, an average pitcher can reach extraordinary heights, often influenced by the dynamics of batted ball luck, challenging the notion that only
